Samsung foldable patent is the Surface Duo rival no one asked for yet
Even though there are at least four or five players in the market, the niche folding telephone may be led by two companies with two very different approaches. Of course there is Samsung with the Galaxy Z folding tablet and the Clamshell Galaxy Z Flip 3, but there is also Microsoft with a new and better surface duo 2. The last one represents a rather interesting opinion, especially because it is really folded only in the sense mechanical. It also has unavoidable weaknesses, however, and new Samsung patents may have an alternative, even though it might come true in the near future.
There are benefits and losses on the surface duo, and the biggest on both sides of the fence is that it does not use a flexible screen that is expensive and relatively fragile. The way it is able to fold along the way again makes the second screen unnecessary, but stitches in the middle are also a greater deal for some folds. Samsung seems to have played with the last solving idea but still brings losses from the Galaxy Z fold design itself.
According to the newly awarded patent turned on through rendering 3D Letsgodigital, Samsung has imagined what appeared to be the descendants of the Galaxy Z Fold and the surface of the duo. There is one single screen, disconnected, foldable that offers a greater surface area than the current Galaxy Z Fold 3. Unlike Samsung premium folded, hinges on this device run horizontally, more similar to the Galaxy Z flip.
This means that this folding tablet is closed more like a clamshell or laptop, unlike the current surface duo 2 which folds like a wallet. Because of that design, there is a second screen on the opposite side, although it looks more square and does not occupy the entire area. Obviously from the patent that it is not designed to really become a smartphone when folded, but more like a small tablet that can be used as a telephone too, even though with awkwardness.
